A seasoned ‘slow’ traveler herself, who has lived all her life in the city, but has also journeyed extensively outside of it, she can be your access point to the insider’s view: to those aspects of life in Chennai – its people, its places, its culture, its quirks – hidden from a casual visitor.
Snailspace: This apartment is located in an upscale residential locality in Mylapore in South Chennai, at the centre of both the old and the new. Strolling down the tree-lined streets and byways of the neighbourhood, you’ll see beautifully preserved old residences cheek by jowl with modern buildings and an eclectic mix of shops and cafes. Although tucked away from the main roads, the apartment is within walking distance of music halls, theatres, temples, churches, hotels, restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, and parks. You can eat out or simply shop at the local store for ingredients for a home-cooked meal, which you can enjoy al fresco on the apartment’s balcony. The city’s famous Marina Beach is only a couple of kilometers away, and public transport (buses, taxis, and auto rickshaws) is easily accessible.
