Short Term Stay

Step off the beaten track at the start of your visit to Chennai and you’ll find that Snailspace will be your first stop. We are the sole providers in Chennai of your best alternative to the impersonality of a hotel room: the chance to make your own home in the city, no matter how short your visit. Be it at the start or the end of your relocation assignment, a business trip, or if you’re a ‘slow’ traveler – who wants to live, not just visit, your holiday destination – then Snailspace is your ideal choice.

Your host, Sumita Chesetty, can assist as much or as little as you would like in creating your own unique experience of Chennai. A seasoned ‘slow’ traveler herself, who has lived all her life in the city, but has also journeyed extensively outside of it, she can be your access point to the insider’s view: to those aspects of life in Chennai – its people, its places, its culture, its quirks – hidden from a casual visitor.

Snailspace: This apartment is located in an upscale residential locality in Mylapore in South Chennai, at the centre of both the old and the new. Strolling down the tree-lined streets and byways of the neighbourhood, you’ll see beautifully preserved old residences cheek by jowl with modern buildings and an eclectic mix of shops and cafes. Although tucked away from the main roads, the apartment is within walking distance of music halls, theatres, temples, churches, hotels, restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, and parks. You can eat out or simply shop at the local store for ingredients for a home-cooked meal, which you can enjoy al fresco on the apartment’s balcony. The city’s famous Marina Beach is only a couple of kilometers away, and public transport (buses, taxis, and auto rickshaws) is easily accessible.

Sumita, Once again, I have walked into your lovely flat and felt this as my second home in Chennai. It is just so perfect in its ambience and comfort. Thanks again for all your timely tips and support during our stay. I will be back again!

What a beautiful, nourishing and restorative time it has been to stay here. Each day I felt like I sunk more into the space and received so much. A true sanctuary. Thank you

I stayed at Snailspace, Chennai for a week in February. I totally enjoyed my stay. The host, Sumita, was waiting when I reached and showed me around, explaining how everything works. There were little notes left everywhere, in case I missed her explanation. There were small touches such as fresh coffee powder, tetrapaks of milk, sugar, some snacks, etc. that were unexpected. I didn't need to go shopping for groceries for a couple of days at least! I could order food online and have it delivered. And there are several superb restaurants within walking distance of the apartment. My favourite was Woodlands! For me, it was the perfect location to explore this part of Chennai from. I happily walked to all the nearby places. Chengamma came on alternate days to clean the place. She is quite thorough and ready to chat if you are interested. When she saw me having muesli for breakfast, she immediately offered to bring me a hot, cooked breakfast from her home the next day! I was deeply touched by the offer. During the day, the area is quite busy. However, at night, it is very quiet. It was lovely to sit out on the balcony and enjoy the peace. I would recommend Snailspace to anyone who wants to spend a few days in Chennai either for work or holiday as the apartment is very central and has all that one needs.

This was such a beautiful home to stay in and Sumita went above and beyond as a host-attentive and great insight into the city. It was a real pleasure to stay here and have as a guest abode, nestled in busy Chennai.
Thank you!

From the first moment I stepped into your flat, I knew that I was going to feel good here, during my 2.5 months. It’s a perfect snailspace, if some cyclone hits the city, or if there are riots because a populist politician dies, or just to relax on a ‘normal’ afternoon and listen to the birds. You have been a big help during demonetisation and a good guide to the classy and less classy extends of the city. As my local host, you were great, Thank you for everything!

If you're far away from home and wanting to go out exploring and experiencing the formidably diverse aspects of Chennai then you really need to use as your base Snailpace! It will be your cozy, quiet and incredibly well equipped refuge wherefrom to start your day and come back to at night. I LOVED it. It had just everything I needed to feel extremely comfortable and well taken care of, the location is just perfect. You can take long and interesting walks just in the immediate surroundings, you can easily shop for organic food or any other item you might need. And the best thing is the owner, Sumita. She is an incredible source of all kinds of information and is always available to advise, make suggestions, explain and help whether you're interested in craft markets, food, sights, walks or art galleries! I could have hoped for nothing more during my stay in Chennai. Highly highly recommended!
